Troubleshooting
Solutions to common issues you might encounter while using MTG Rack.
Login Problems
If you cannot sign in, try the following:
- Check your email — make sure you are using the email address you signed up with. Accounts created via Google or GitHub OAuth use the email from that provider.
- Reset your password — go to /reset-password to receive a reset link. The link expires after 1 hour.
- Clear cookies — stale authentication cookies can cause login loops. Clear your browser cookies for mtgrack.com and try again.
- Disable browser extensions — ad blockers and privacy extensions can interfere with the authentication flow. Try logging in with extensions disabled or in an incognito window.
Import Failures
If your CSV or text import fails or some cards are not matched:
- Check the file format — CSV files must use UTF-8 encoding. If you edited the file in Excel, re-save it as
CSV UTF-8to avoid encoding issues. - Review unmatched rows — the import summary shows which rows failed. Common causes are misspelled card names, incorrect set codes, or missing columns.
- Very new sets — cards from sets released in the last 24-48 hours may not yet be indexed. Wait a day and try again.
- File size — imports are limited to 10,000 rows per file. Split larger files and import in batches.
Download Failed Rows
After an import, click Download Failed Rows to get a CSV of unmatched entries. Fix the issues and re-import just those rows.
Scanner Not Working
If the card scanner does not activate or produces poor results:
- Grant camera permission — check your browser settings to ensure mtgrack.com has camera access. On iOS Safari, go to Settings → Safari → Camera and set it to Allow.
- Use HTTPS — camera access requires a secure connection. Make sure you are on
https://mtgrack.com, nothttp://. - Improve lighting — poor or uneven lighting is the most common cause of misidentified cards. See the Scanner guide for tips.
- Try a different browser — if your current browser does not support the MediaDevices API, try Chrome or Firefox.
Missing Cards
If a card you own does not appear in search results or your collection:
- Search by collector number — some promo cards and alternate art printings have different names in the database. Search by set code and collector number for an exact match.
- Check filters — your collection view may have active filters (color, type, set, or binder) hiding the card. Clear all filters and try again.
- Tokens and extras — tokens, emblems, art cards, and other non-playable extras are not included in the default card database. Toggle Show Extras in search settings to find them.
Price Discrepancies
If the price shown on MTG Rack differs from what you see on TCGplayer or other sites:
- Check the printing — different printings of the same card can have very different prices. Make sure the set and collector number match the version you own.
- Foil vs non-foil — verify that your card's foil status is set correctly. Foil and non-foil prices are tracked separately.
- Price update delay — prices are refreshed daily. Very recent market movements (within the last 24 hours) may not be reflected yet.
- Condition adjustment — MTG Rack applies a condition multiplier to prices. A Moderately Played card is valued lower than a Near Mint copy of the same printing.
